This is my first attempt at installing RH 8.0 and I'm not having much luck. My problem is that while the install program boots from the CDROM drive just fine but after the firest few questions, it asks what type of install I'm doing?
I choose CDROM install and then it says that it can't read the files from the drive and it won't let me do anything but kill the install.

Any advice?

My other experience with Corel Linux SE went much easier!

Yes, I did burn them from ISO files

and No I don't recall seeing that option on the intall menu. What exactly is the test app?

When you boot from the first CD, after Linux boots from the CD but before the install process actually starts an application will spin up which offers to test your CDs. It will perform a checksum operation that can take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes per CD, depending on your system.

If you have burned your CDs from ISO, I strongly recommend running that test on your install set. Want the best answers? Ask the best questions: TANSTAAFL!

I tried the mediacheck option before the install and the results are the same.

if you d/l the iso's d/l them again and burn them again. I had to burn disc 1 twice to get it to work and install it 3 times. What fun. Using RH 8.0. I am now in the process of tweaking smb.conf.

I tried doing the first disk again and the results are still same!

Would I be correct to infer that the mediacheck did not report any errors? You did not explicitly say so.

If you got a bad burn from an ISO file (as evidenced by a bad checksum from the disk check), download the ISO again from a different location than when you did the first time. I've seen a few mirrors out there with bad ISOs.

Yeah. I did not see any indication that there were errors during the media check.

I did notice that the ISO file for the first disk to be unusually small in size compared to the the other four. The size of the first ISO is exactly 37,139KB. Is the first disk typically that small?
