system id is used to access some particular switch licensing information on the rfa web site. only tier 1 partners have access to this functionality. therefore, if you are a tier 1 business partner, you should know how to get system id through rfa interface. otherwise, you don't need it.
dwalin: you are quite right about tier 1 bussiness partners and necessity RFA system ID for end user, but nethertheless the field 'RFA System ID (SID)' has appeared in CM2 on 'disp sys cu' form. So Avaya guys, I guess, think a little bit different
i think it's just a part of moving their database indexes from serial numbers to rfa system ids. so when you have a big installation with widely dispersed sites you can look it up in the database using system id which is always unique but processor or gateway serial numbers may be not. so displaying sid in the disp sys cust form is just for easing tier 1 partners's life a bit. guess what would be easier to ask from a customer: to do disp sys cust and give the sid which is on the first page or to locate some gateway or ipsi circuit pack to look up its serial number. especially if this gateway or ipsi is failed and the customer is having his system in license error mode and is all jumpy.
You don't need to look up circuit pack to get serial number of processor or golden IPSI - there are 'list conf lic' and 'serialnumber -l' commands. Running of this commands isn't harder than 'disp sys cu'
One thought came to my mind: RFA system ID field will be useful in case of replacing of failed processor circuit pack - in this situation 'list conf lic' will display serial number of new processor - as far as I know there is no command to get serial number from license file on DEFINITY servers (unlike Media Servers which have 'serialnumber -l' command). So in case of remote access the system can't be identified and the licenses can't be transferred to new processor. RFA system ID field solves this problem.
