rexec across domains

I am having trouble running the rexec command from one domain xxx.domain1.com to another yyy.domain1.com machine. The same user exists in each domain and has the same user id and password. The .netrc file exists in the home directory and works fine when I do rexec within yyy.domain1.com. There are different NIS master servers for each domain. Is that the potential problem or do I need to look elsewhere?
