RewriteRule

I am trying to learn the RewriteRule wording. I have found tons of places online, but I cant seem to catch the idea of it. Maybe if I saw it written the way I am trying to get accomplished it may help.

I am trying to duplicate the idea that digg.com uses.

http://digg.com/view/technology/popular/yesterday

I am assuming that would go to something like this:

http://digg.com/view.php?view=technology&popular=yesterday

I know, that is probably not what is going on at Digg, but that makes sense to me and I would like to create that on my site. Can someone show me how to write the RewriteRule to duplicate this?

RewriteRule ^/view/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+) /view.php?view=$1&$2=$3
