I don't think that this is actually an Exchange issue but those who deal with Exchange have probably come across it.

Scenario: Exchange 2010 SP3, Outlook 2010/2013 clients. Printing software (Papercut) has the ability to print by sending a PDF to an email address, email addresses are configure per printer in the Papercut software which accesses a mailbox to retrieve the document. One mailbox in Exchange has primary address of eg papercut@domain.local and dozens of aliases eg printer1@domain.local, printer2@domain.local.

When sending from Outlook (using Exchange account) to a printer aliase Papercut rejects the email because it doesn't have a printer assigned to the email address. The email address shown is the primary address not the alias that was sent to. When sending from Outlook (using an external Hotmail account) the same thing happens. When sending from eg my mobile phone it works. When sending from Live Essentials Mail 2012 it works. It appears that Outlook changes the To: header from the alias to the primary address but Live Mail & other devices do not. That's why it appears to be an issue rather than Exchange.

Any ideas if it's possible to stop this from happening in Outlook or Exchange?
