Hello

I have a sort-of preliminary site here:

I am still working on it (there is no portfolio or guestbook) and it needs fine-tuning, but I would be intersted in any first impressions.

Many thanks.

Everton

I like the minimalist style, but it does not show off any of what you say you do:

"grafiK 1 is a web design company specialising in cutting edge websites with style, interactive Flash animation, high end multimedia, and robust database applications. Based in the UK, grafiK 1 design delivers affordable business and e-commerce website solutions all over the world."

People still use frames in 2005? The text is a bit too small, and too dark to read. Not sure a guestbook feature is needed for a site like this. Guestbooks are generaly for personal sites not a business (which this seems to be).

The background of the woman seems out-of-place. At first glance I thought I was at someone's personal site, or some woman's portfolio.

Your footer says: ...developed in Dreamweaver MX......that portion NOT needed. Why announce that you use a WYSIWYG?

Needs more content before you can get any definite feedback.

Hello

Many thanks for all your constructive replies. Most of the comments I will take on board, probably with the exception of changing the <font> tag (not too sure why I would want to) and the <frame> tag. The photo loads better this way.

The reason there is a table in the <head> tag is that the date is there (it contains VBScript), and I was under the impression that the <% %> had to be in the <head> tag.

Thanks again.

Google for "font tag", and you'll see why. These are in the first four links to appear:

Beyond the FONT tag

cleverchimp said:
Use of FONT is unfortunate on many counts, not least of which for Web developers is the tedium and bloat of adding, e.g., "<font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" color="#FFFFFF">...</font>" dozens or even hundreds of times to complex table-based pages. Modem users suffer too: often more than 20% of a typical commerce/portal site's weighty HTML code consists of FONT and its attributes. FONT is slow.

The proposed alternative to FONT (and to tables for layout, for that matter) is Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

The FONT tag
w3schools said:
The font element was deprecated in HTML 4.01.

The font element is not supported in XHTML 1.0 Strict DTD.

Use styles (instead of the <font> tag) to define the font face, font size, and font color of text.

Deprecated. Use styles instead

What's wrong with the FONT element?

I wasn't being nasty when I said to get rid of it - I really believe you should, and know of no professional web developers who would disagree with me.

Dan's given you a string of technical reasons. Here's another: If you're claiming to specialise in "cutting edge websites", you need to use some of the techniques used to build them in this millenium rather than the last. Take a look at CSS, once you get over the learning curve you'll wonder how you managed without it...

OK, convinced!

Seriously thanks again for your advice and suggestions (and useful links).

Cheers

Looks like a good start!

This really confuses me:

grafiK 1 is a web design company specialising

and

Created and developed ... by Steve Higham for grafik-online

I also like the minimalistic look (check out my website....) but something needs to be said for efficient use of space. Things seem out of place. Specifically "style on the web" and the picture.

If you must keep the frame, but keep in mind that frame based sites are almost guaranteed low search engine rankings.

Lastly I would tweak the colors abit. With the stylized picture off to the right of the content drawing all your attention I think you need to make the content brighter. That is unless you want your visitors to be distracted away from your copy text.
