I just worked on a BCM 50 that had IP-1230's installed. I have only worked on system so far that have the M and T series sets. I wanted to post a review of my first impression of these sets

I have to tell you that from the first button push I became frustrated. The buttons would not respond. The angle of the set made the display hard to read. When tried to use the phone it would actually move back when I pushed each button. The set is not weighted properly to hold it in place. My customer has told me that they use double stick tape on the phones to keep them in place. I was shocked. She said that she has pulled them right off the desk before when she has stretched her spring cord to far. I assume that the housing is so light that she was not aware of any tug on her handset from the base that would have warned her to stop.

I found that the button marked FEATURE spills over into the second button and that the top 5 buttons are not lined up with each feature name displayed. The tilt of the base allows for only 2 settings, either to high or to low. The set looks modern and very cosmetically pleasing but overall I am shocked at the poor design and performance of the set compared to my good ol reliable and very stable M and T series sets. Based on my experience I would not provide these sets to a client unless perhaps they ask for them or are already use to using them.

What are your experiences with these and the other MICS, CICS and BCM series sets?

I look forward to your replies.

Thank you!

You pay for what you get basically, if your customer would of went with the 1100 series sets then they wouldn't be complaining as much. The 1100 series are simply all around better if you ask me.

My most annoying gripe about these phones is trying to unplug the LAN cable from the RJ-45 input. The electrical input's side wall is right up against the outlet, so it's nearly impossible to get your fingers into the area to unplug the Ethernet cable.

I've used this phone on both the BCM and UCx and it contains a large amount of display issues with the letter/characters. Text overlaps onto other buttons and the Call Timer doesn't display properly.

I've also experienced major feedback issues with these sets when it comes to paging systems when compared to the 11xx sets.

It is a good looking set though for the value conscious customer. It has a good speaker, so Handsfree and ring tones sound just as good as the 11xx.

12xx are expensive.

are expensive" is relative. An IP phone is almost always going to be more expensive than a digital phone due to the differences in technology. If cost is the #1 concern, then stick with digital.
