Reverting to previous settings?

I'm currently having some issues that I've had in the past. Basic things like the spacebar which is usually the shortcut to move around the workspace or using option and click/drag to duplicate an item no longer work... same with things like spacebar-apple-option won't let me zoom out.

I've had this happen a couple times randomly and it usually sticks around for various amounts of time and then it just somehow reverts back to the normal way.

How can I go in and fix this? I've went through several different things and nothing seems to work!

...have you tried resetting illustrator settings, shortcut is applied on launch of illustrator:

apple/command + alt/option + shift

...hold these keys down and then launch illustrator, keep them held until you see the welcome screen...
