I had a mirrored disk setup in a server but the mirroring proved to be totally ineffective partly due to HP's setup methods. I broke the mirror and removed one of the partitions but I am not allowed to remove the system partition and the revert to basic option is greyed out.

I need to reclaim the full size of the disk in full not as partitions. Any ideas?

From within Windows it is not going to let you revert a system partition, nor revert a former dynamic disk to basic.

I would, outside of Windows, remove all the partitions from the second drive, repartition and format.

Then use Ghost or Acronis or something to make an exact copy or if necessary image of the first drive's system partition to the clean second drive.

Then outside of Windows, remove partitions from the first drive, repartition and format.

Swap drive jumpers and cables, and boot from what was once the second hard drive.
