Have a multiprocessor mail server that crashed. I ghosted a backup to a spare machine that has a single processor. Blue screened regarding an incorrect HAL. Any way to go backward to single processor compatible without a complete reinstall?

You may have already moved on and re-installed, but I know you can change the HAL manually. I had to do it when I used uptomp.exe and had the HAL didn't work for the Compaq server I was on.

Better scour Microsoft's Knowledge Base. I just can't remember what I did. I know I used MSKB info to help me out. Seems like I just replaced the hal.dll but I had to get access to the NTFS filesystem first.

I'll re-post if I remember.

Good Luck!

Thanks very much. I wanted to try that but I was handling the matter over the phone with a client 2 hours away. IBM came out and changed the board in the original server bringing it back online. I told him to leave the spare machine the way it was so I could try it next time I go out there.
