I am also new to Designer. I am attempting to reverse engineer my database. I went through the design capture and created a server model. Now I am trying to create an ERD. The first thing I am prompted for is a container but none appear in the list.

What did I do wrong? I know I have all the table definitions etc in a container.

An ERD models Entities, not Table Definitions. Choose Designer->Table to Entity Retrofit from the Utilities menu in the RON to create Entities. Then you'll be able to create an ERD.

An adding comment:

I agree completely with hans_vd and add the following:
A container is a child of your workspace, it can be a folder or an application system. Table-to-Entity-Retrofit is working when your container is an application system only.
