Reverse engineering an executable

Hello,

Can anybody help me decompile/reverse compile/reverse engineer a binary file built using C for AIX 5.0 . The binary file is quite old and the source codes were not archived. So I need to add an additional function but first need to study the original codes then create a new design based on the previous functionality.
