I have at least two databases (SQL and Access'97) and I'm trying to define a model to map the changes required to enable the new source tables to be used when the Access tables are replaced by (similar) SQL tables and Views. i.e. a diagram that will show similarities/differences and and have connectors between equivalent old and new source names.
How can I automate making a diagram to show these mapping links between the old table definitions and the new so that I can see the relationships between the version of fields by adding connectors?
I have the table definitions in a database [as tables] and in excel as ranges ( rows for table/field names and columns for further type characterisics such as field type and size )or can reverse engineer each database on to single drawings but I'm unsure how I can easily add dynamic connectors between these representations and linked sources. Each reverse engineered dbase seems to need a separate Visio diagram and I cannot connect to the fields (definitions) with a connector without adding connection points manually. Can this be automated or have I just missed an already built in function?
TIA
