We have several AIX boxes as well as some Windows 2000 servers. One of the 2000 servers currently acts as a DNS server. I have AIX resolving hostnames to the W2K server.

The problem is, when I do a "WHO" in AIX, it is returning the fully qualified domain name, which I do not want. I would like it only to display the hostname of the client.

Any ideas on how I can get AIX to simply show the hostnames, not the whole domain name?

Thanks!

It will show whatever the resolution provides. If you are that concerned about the who output, you could put those hosts into a hosts file and use host file resolution ahead of DNS. I can't see why it would be an issue though

Because we have been using the hosts file, but now we are switching to DHCP via Windows 2000 server. Some of our software requires each computers hostname to remember settings. It will now require us to go through and add the domain part of it, which will not always fit.
