hi all,.

having porblems with reverse dns lookup, it seems that some mail servers will not send us email if there is no reverse dns lookup reply.

i've setup a pointer to point back to my server but i am still not getting an answer from a reverse dns lookup using dnsstuff.com.

do i need to open a port on my firewall to allow for this?

thanks in advance.

The record that needs to be created has to be set up by your ISP, unless you own your own class C subnet and handle the Reverse Lookup Zone for that subnet.

Typically you can call your ISP's support line and ask for the DNS managers. Tell them you need an RDNS record created and give them the server name. Some ISP's even let you create it yourself when you log into your account control panel.

Even the big ones like Verizon and AT&T will do this for you. Sometimes it's a hassle when you have a residential cable connection though.
