Hello,

Is it safe to have the actual server name in the header when mails go out? Meaning if I have a server called server01 internally that has Exchange and on any emails going out, in the headers it will say ip.ad.dr.ess and server01.mydomain.com in it.

Also, for Reverse DNS to be set correctly, I need to set the PTR to server01.mydomain.com, correct? and not or mail.mydomain.com.

Thanks,

JY

The server will sppear in the headers of the email as whatever internal hostname it has.

As for reverse DNS, it doesn't matter what you point it to as long as the A record matches the reverse record. It does not have to be the real name of the box.

Chris.
