Im just starting at a company... and they currenty are in two buildings.. only 2 story buildings. and they are currently using Anntenas for there wireless network... the pcs.. in the one building are working fine... in the other building they are running dog slow, So waht i need to do is get everyone running togehter. now i what i need to know is whats the best way here.. I could just run from the router a rj45 cable from roof to roof.. and then into a good hub and then to the computers? or should i just upgrade there wireless network? Maybe VPN? given the problem is the pcs in the second build have no internet.. so i need to get the connectino from the one to the other building.. and im thinking a direct connections is best. just run like 300 feet of Rj45 cabling from building to building..

Ok i ranted.. Anyone eles have an idea???

if you use a wire, Multimode Fiber is a good choice. 100 meg to 2km, gig to 550 meters

Wireless Radio can be as spendy as you want 11 mbit is about $3k, 45mbit about $10k $100 mbit about $35k and 460 mbit exists but I never got guts to ask how much it was.

Laser beams can do 100mbit for $19k for 300 meters

if the point is JUST internet access, it is unlikely you have more than a 5.5 mbit connection. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Yea well im not sure what they are paying and all.. right now its for internet and server access.. SO im thinking that im just going to run RJ 45 Cabling from building to building..

Kinda go from server to all the pcs.. and run one wire from the server across to the other building .. and then just install a hub and run it from there to the PCS..

Im assuming that RJ45 cabling is Prety Weather freindly? imean the rain and snow will not hurt it?

No it's not. If it's in the air or even buried in a conduit it would need to be some kind of weather proof cable that would be quite a bit more expensive than normal cable, not to mention that copper between buildings causes all kinds of grounding headaches and you would be creating an excellent lightning rod. Also, a 100Mb link over copper has a maximum length of 100 meters from device to device, meaning that 300 feet plus patch cords at each end is pushing it.

Use one of jimbo's solutions and if you go fiber, make sure it's a gel filled outdoor grade cable.

I haven't lost my mind - I know it's backed up on tape somewhere ....

Everywhere I have been persuaded to run copper I hate it or pulled it back out. I have never needed fiber to be repulled, the stuff I laid in 1992 as 10 mbit is running gigabit I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I agree.

Wiring closet to desktop: copper is fine for most
Wiring closet to wiring closet: fiber
Anything that leaves the building: protected, outdoor grade fiber or a wireless solution.
