I am racking my head on this, and I have even searched this forum with no luck.
My issue: I have a new Rev 7 system and the newest software on my PC. I can access the system via RAC without any issues. However, when I program the settings and upload them, it sometimes fails to upload to the internal memory. Assuming this was a connection issue, I was sure to turn my modem down to accomodate the slow 14.4 connection. I now can get the upload to go thru sometimes, but when I go to apply or write the translations, the system kicks me out like it says it would and everything seems to reset back to default. Meaning the password even is gone and I have to #730 to reset it again. Any ideas as to why after I upload, I cannot apply the settings?

Thanks in advance
Rob

Dis you frigid start it (#989CLEAR) before programming? Have you tried backing the modem down to 2400? (Painfully slow, but very robust for problem CPUs.) Have you tried to upload the translation file to the card, rather than internal memory? Sounds like a command issue, rather than a communication issue.

When it was installed, I guess they just powered the unit on and used it as is. I am comming in after the install.

I have not dropped the modem down that low.

I have never been successful to transfer it to the card, assuming its ok to transfer it to a RAC as thats the only card we have in it.

What will the frigid start do?

When you say command issue, do you mean a command within the program?

Your help is very appreciated.

When you connect at a higher rate than is supported by the connection conditions, you can insert errors in the uploaded file which, when looked at to verify integrity at the 98% mark, will be discarded as corrupt. When that occurs, it will not kick you offline. But you can still restore the system from an "empty" translation file if the file was not written to the card or memory, which will then kick you, but kill all the programming you thought you had accomplished.

Upload the file at 2400 to internal and restore that, see if it takes. If it doesn't, upload it to the RAC and restore it from there. If that fails as well, then you need to go onsite anyway where you can try both ways again using a local connection. If it fails from afar but not near, it's probably a bad connection. If it fails both ways, it was probably never frigid started. If it was, it may be a bad RAC or CPU.

To verify a frigid start was done when first installed, download the maintenance/diagnostic log from the system and look under errors and events/events. The first entry should read: "Frigid start, system translations have been set to defaults. Errors and Events have been cleared." If it hasn't been frigid started, do so before programming it or you'll chase problems forever. A frigid start forces a cleaning of stray data left in CPU memory from factory testing, or shipping and handling due to stray magnetic or static fields and the errant neutrino or two that can be interpreted by the system as programmed instructions. An analogy would be trying to read a new hard drive that has never been formatted: you may see absolutely nothing, but you could just as easily see stray data that appears to be the face of Elvis. (Sorta like the "face" on Mars.) That unknown quality of data in memory can cause weird "command" elements to be introduced to your upload/restore process as well as many, many other system processes. Always frigid start a new installation!
Good luck!

I don't think it is related to RAC, because I noticed the same problem on my new system as well when it is connected directly to the computer's serial port.

Downloading the Translation file works ok all the time. If I try to upload it, it does not do it. The progress bar hangs at zero for a while before it notifies me that upload failed.

I try to upload to internal memory since this ACS does not have a PC card.

Any ideas ?

I tried the lower modem setting and it still fails to load.
I am going to go onsite and do the frigid start since thats all I have to try.

Is there part of the manual that covers the frigid start?

I cant seem to find anything, and it certainly wasnt covered in the small training I had.

Thanks again for the help!
Rob
