All configurations appear to be set up correctly. Return receipt works correctly inter-office, however, internet return receipts are not being generated if the user is running something other than Domino. Anyone running Notes 5.0.7 encountered this? Returns were working fine with Notes 4.65a.

Do you have a configuration document set up for the servers which are sending SMTP mail ?
The only place I can see "Return receipts" mentioned is in MIME/CONVERSION OPTIONS/GENERAL . I'm not sure how this would default if you do not have a configuration document set up.
I could be reading your question wrong. Do you have Notes clients and non-Notes clients on the Domino servers which are having problems with return reciepts between each other or are you refering to sending messages from an external system (IE the Internet) in to Notes ?

They are all Notes Clients using a Domino server. According to Notes.net, the settings are correct. In fact I get return receipt from others using a Domino server - I don't always get confirmation from another source (i.e. hotmail). Return receipt always worked in 4.6, now in 5 it doesn't all the time. We are wondering now if 4.6 really just gave you a confirmation that it was delivered to the server, not the person actually opening the email. I need to confirm this - my boss is really on my back about this.

R4 lets you know when a message is read or deleted. Read reciepts are not always to be trusted though. Mobile users can delete return reciepts from their local mail.box before connecting back up to the network.

I found this on Lotus's site under support.
Hope it helps
