When doing a return receipt and sent confirmation on mail sent to internal users i get a reply and confirmation. but on mail sent to external mail systems i do not get either. is this suppose to work on external mail systems. I am using notes 5.08 as a client and 5.04 for server

It will work if the external mail system allows it. The problem is that most do not allow reciept by default. The reason being being that by giving a reciept, any spammers out there will know the address they hit is legitimate and can sell it on. Result lots of junk.
