I know how dumb this is going to sound but through a long prosses I managed to delete a partition and was hopeing there was some way to partition it again as if it were never deleted, i have not formated it yet.

I have used a freeware app called MBRWork to recover lost partitions. There are several commercial apps also, Winternals?

Andy.

ok so i bought getdataback but it still can't seem to get the data back, should i format the drive? will data recovery progs only work if the drive is in NTFS formated mode?

Good data recovery apps should work with whatever original filestore types they support. Doesn't getdataback have separate ntfs and fat versions?

Formatting the drive will probably make matters worse (ie, make it more difficult to recover the data).

btw - what was the original format?

Did you try the TestDisk link? I suggested it as it supposedly undeletes partitions, which you said you deleted. Did you delete the partition or all of the data on it?

I wouldn't recommend formatting or partitioning anything on the drive if you want to have any hope of recovering data.

Have you tried MBRWork? If you had 3 partitions before, tell it to look for 4, etc.if you used an extended partitition. Don't write anything more to the drive until you have verified that your lost partition is safe!

Andy.

I will take a look at those two programs since they sound a bit better than the one i bought but I did get my data back so I am happy for the moment, I ended up formating the drive and then without writing anything to it searching with GetDataBack(NTFS) and finding my files. and in reply to what format was it before i stupidly deleted the partition it was NTFS so thats probebly why i was having issues trying to get the data back when it was in unpartitioned FAT12 so thanx for reminding me of that so that i formated the drive NTFS and was then able to get my data back :) thanx all have a great day.
