retrieve value of selected text

Hi,

I want to retrieve the value of any text that the user selects in a textarea field. I saw this done somewhere before, but I can't remember where. I do know that it was for IE or IE5 only though, which is fine.

The script I saw also updated the selected text in the field (added capital letters etc) - if anyone can point me in the right direction for some info on this I'd be hugely grateful.

var seltxt = document.selection.createRange().text
