Retrieve New Mail cannot be disabled?

In the Mail Transfer Options, when I disable Retrieve New Mail by removing the check mark for all personalities, the program automatically puts the check marks back in. Why can this feature not be disbaled? Is there a way to prevent the program from automatically retrieving mail from the server? I wish to decide for myself when to retrieve mail.

Which version of Eudora are you using and on which platform?

BTW, I am using Eudora 6.2.1.2 on Windows and I have no dificulty turning off retrieval of new mail.

running Eudora 6.2.1.2 under win2kpro. There is also a Check Mail option for each personality and I have played around with that as well with no success. If I disable the Check Mail, then the program won't check the mail for that personality even when I manually run Check Mail.
