Hi,
Im using a winnt4 workstation with exchange server on our mail server, what happened was I sent a mail to someone, that was just text, it was quite large, and I sent it.
And as I do I like to keep my mailbox size down so I delete my mails....so I deleted it and from the deleted items.
The problem starts when I get a return from our server saying that the mail was undeliverable, coz or server was giving trouble.
What I want to do is to send the mail again, but I have no copy of it, not even in the sent items. Is there a place that keeps the messages sent in exchange. I have checked the folder \\server\H:\ExchSrvr\imcdata\out\archive but there is nothing in the folder in this area....??
anywhere else its located..???? Jay~

Hi KeyTech

Not wanting to teach anyone how to suck eggs, but what email client are you using? In Outlook2000 highlight the deleted items folder and in the Tools menu choose 'Recover Deleted Items'

Hope this helps

Yea Im using Outlook2000, and the mails are deleted from the Deleted items folder totaly. I tried recovering deleted items already but nothing, is that meant to recover items in the deleted items folder, or items that have been deleted from the folder????
I cant get it to work even when there are mails in the Deleted items folder?? All that comes up is the dialog box with no messages in it nor any options to recover, they are all grayed out.......
Is there any record of the mails in Exchange on the sever????? Jay~

There is a setting in the Private Information Store for how many days a mail item thats been deleted from the deleted items folder is kept before its permanently deleted (ours is set to 8 days.) Only after that time has past will you not be able to recover the data.
I've heard rumours that Exchange keeps copies of all emails, but the only ones I know about are the log files which are usually(?) 5MB each. How far back these logs track depends on whether you have circular logging enabled or not (in Exchange Admin get the properties of the SERVER and go to the advanced tab,) and how busy the exchange system is. (Whilst recently looking into the Circam virus problem I found out that our logs were only keeping 20 minutes of throughput because we have 8 logs of 5MB each.)

Sorry I can't be more help

Richard
