retrieve Date Separator in linux thr' C program

hi,
i want 2 retrieve the dtae separator for current locale.
if current short date is : "2003/07/11"
i want 2 get "/"

how do i do that

as of yet i am successful to retrieve the current locales date format.

plz help asap. my work cannot proceed.

am writing C code.

i am not sure whether date format in KDE is different from system date.
