retrieve a contact id number in act 1

I am using act in conjunction with quotewerks software. For a given quote, the contact info fields are populated by the current act record. I would also like to pass a contact id from act to quotewerks so that I can identify which quotes are shared by a common contact id.

How can I retrieve an autonumber contact id from act?

I am using Act 2008. I would like to omit the portion of my question that relates to Quotewerks as that has been answered. My question now is as follows:

Can I view my Act contacts in order of contact creation or auto id number, other than doing a lookup to view contacts that were edited on a given date?

There are add-ons that will auto number contacts if you need that, but to view then in order of contact creation: View Contact List | Edit | Sort - select Create Date
