retreiving system display settings

I need to be able to detect the current display settings ie. form colours, in order to set the director's stage colour to this.
I don't want to use any Extras.

Also do you know how to remove the director icon without removing the titlebar.

I have a little programme which I just found that will change Icons. I can send it to you if you like.

Is there a way to alter your movies palette so that it is dependent upon the windows settings using lingo. (start ->settings->control panel......)?
