I've had a strange request. A high school wants us to run Cat5e to their lunchroom, so the staff can use their registers. No power poles, they just want to suspend the plugs from the ceiling, and be able to retract them when they're not in use.

Currently, they're using those $5 pocket sized flatwire ethernet coils, but they look tacky, and aren't very sturdy.

What they want is something akin to the spring loaded extension cords you mount in your garage.

I've searched everywhere, but found nada.

Has anyone seen anything like that on the market?

Couldn't you use wireless NICs on the registers?
The retractable idea is cool too, but I hadn't heard of one.

Where do the registers plug in?

have you done a search here ?

I know I read a similar request not to long ago

fonedude- Per the manufacturer, wireless is not a reliable option for their equipment. Pity, they have access points all over the school.

Robertjo24, you are the man! I had just about given up.

Wow. Google must like you guys better than they like me.

Star for you, too, Infinity306.
