Hello,
I built a new SBS 2008 machine (SRV02) as a home/lab server. I have a SBS 2003 (SRV01) that I will be retiring. I have not yet had both servers on the same network.
I'd like to know if I can demote the SBS 2003 server so that it can be connected to the same network as the new SBS 2008 server without causing AD conflicts. This would be temporary, while I copy files to the new server and review settings. I would like to be able to map a drive on the new server to the old one and to RDP to each server from a client machine. (I have my reasons for not performing a swing migration.)
So far, my plan is:
Disable DNS and DHCP on SBS 2003
Demote SBS 2003 with DCPROMO
Change the SBS 2003 IP address to something unique (it's currently the same as SBS 2008)
Does this sound like a valid plan?
Thanks in advance.
