What is the best way to unretire an account? I'm on HP Tru64, usermod doesn't seem to do it and there is no unretire command.

Thanks!

Using [tt]passwd[/tt] you can just lock their password if you need to keep their directories and files.

You can use [tt]userdel[/tt] to remove their account.

I think he really meant unretire retired accounts?

Presumably by simply setting a password with the passwd command? I'm no HP user though...

Which version of Tru64 are you using? On our Tru64 v5.1A system, I had a look in the dxaccounts GUI Help (On Item - retired) where it says "Retires a user account. The ID of a retired user cannot be reused.". So my understanding of the situation (for Tru64 v5.1a at least) is that once a username is retired it cannot be unretired. Maybe you can delete the username and then re-add it. (NB backup the files first).

I hope that helps.

This sounds like Tru64 enhanced security. As far as Im aware the account can't be reused.

Thank you everyone! I didn't think it was possible to unretire an account (but there's always someone smarter than me), so I just created a new one.

You can unretire an account try
