1. As described below, is it possible to set this up in 7.0?

2. If not, is it possible in 8.0 (I'm willing to upgrade)?

I have a Crystal report that has an 'event number' along with several other fields. Is it possible to set up this field up as a hyperlink? Also, when I select on a particular event number in Report #1, can this number be retained while opening up another Crystal Report and have this event number entered in as a parameter while running the report #2. Thus, a report opens with just one click and populates the selected criteria. [sig][/sig]

The only way to take a value from the report and have it passed to another report is through a linked subreport.

Starting with V7, you can have the subreports that are only printed "On Demand".

So instead of clicking on the value itself, you could have a subreport button next to the item and clicking on that would launch the subreport. You then wouldn't need the hyperlink since the subreport would open automatically.

The only problem may be that it sounds like you are doing this from a web page, and I am not sure of the limitations of subreports when using web viewers. You want to make sure that on on-demand subreport will work correctly in your viewer. First off, thanks Ken. Now if you could clarify this comment, I'd appreciate it.

"So instead of clicking on the value itself, you could have a subreport button next to the item and clicking on that would launch the subreport. You then wouldn't need the hyperlink since the subreport would open automatically."

So, if I set it up to click on a subreport button, would this only open up the sub report and the user would have to enter the value (event number). I was trying to make it a bit easier for the user so that they didn't have to enter the value each time. [sig][/sig]

If you link the subreport based on the event number of the main report, they won't have to enter the event number.

First create a parameter field in the subreport that selects what you want when prompted and completed manually.

Then when you import that report as a subreport you can create a link between that parameter and a specified field value from the current record of the main report. The link fills in the value automatically [sig]
Ken Hamady
ken@kenhamady.com
<a href= Reports Training by Ken Hamady
[/sig]
