Hello,

I am looking for a reasonably priced retail POS software. I already have the hardware. I just need the software. It seems like a lot of smaller stores uses the CounterPoint system. Where can I buy it and how much does it cost? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Hi Michell,

If you've already picked you're hardware you're probably going to have a really hard time meshing it with software. Most POS software requires specific hardware.

Comes down to the kind of hardware you have. If you let us know we might be able to help.

I have the IBM SurePOS 500 series with Windows XP SP2 installed.

I have an IBM pole display, an IBM cash drawer, a standard keyboard and mouse, a USB card swiper, an Epson TM-T88III, and I will soon have a Symbol LS 4278 scanner with a USB interface.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to this forum!

Well you could try the spotware from Quicken, Quicken POS, it is fairly open to various hardware platforms. The only issue I see maybe the Cash Drawer but since it is OPOS I think it can be worked with.

I will give that a try! Thank you. :)

I would not recommend Quicken for any business until they open up there merchant service provider options. Right now, if you take credit cards you must use their provider (which they also own) or use a stand beside terminal solution of some sort with no integration. Since you are a captive audience, over time you'll pay more to them than the few bucks you'll save up front.

The Fee's seem fair but you can always check with others to get a better rate to see if they will match. the current rate of 1.71% for swiped transactions seems inline to me.
