Many of us usually work (or have people that work) in long term projects that can take from couple of months to couple of years.

If the development of software is done under Windows 2000 or XP then you might consider asking from your employees to HIBERNATE their computers instead of shutting them down.

Most of the time (when working on a project) people have multiple applications running (Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, Paint, Notepad, Wordpad, MODEM software, Outlook, Calculator, Character Set, Command Prompt, Visual basic, MS-Office, Macromedia ..... and others) and when they shut down, they need to get all the above applications running from start (open the files they want, resize & place the windows where they want and many other things)

The HIBERNATE option is a real time saver since it can resume the current windows state (from day to day) in a matter of seconds, saving at least 30 minutes of wasted time each day.

In a company with 5 people this means 12.5 hours at least each week (working 5 days a week).

NOTE: The HIBERNATE state doesn't consume power, so its enviroment friendly.

CAUTION: Don't use the Hibernate option if you have just installed new software or hardware. You should reboot your PC at least once before HIBERNATING. Michael Manos

Good idea, but do keep in mind that any software updates that may get installed at startup over a network (including virus definitions!)will not be installed on a hibernated machine.
Also, don't leave any work unsaved in this state. Occasionaly the restore from Windows fails, and a restart is required.

It would probably be best to restart a machine once a week or so.
