We just moved from Access 2003 to Access 2010 and find a difference concerning when calculations are performed.

I have a report with a blank Page Header, a blank Page Footer. The Detail section contains subreports with numeric fields.

Above the subreports is a summary section that displays subreport totals. And, it contains a calculation which adds SubRptTot_1 + SubRptTot_2.

Problem: In Report View the calculation is not executed and the value of the calculation (SubRptTot_1 + SubRptTot_2) is incorrect. However, in Print Preview (or if I print to a .pdf), the calculation is executed, and the result of the calculation is displayed correctly.

Question: Is there a setting in Access 2010 that instructs the report to execute calculations in Report View? That is, I wish for the values of the report to display the same in Report View as they do in Print Preview.

Thank you . . . . Caryn

Not used Access 2010 yet but where is that calculation done? You should be fine unless it is occuring On Print event... In which case try the on format event.... Or putting it as a control source for that matter.

Thank you for your reply. The main report contains two subreports. In the main report is a Control Source =(SubRpt1_Total + SubRpt2_Total).

There are no Events associated with the control - all "On" events on the property sheet for the control are blank. The same is true for the report - all Events in the report property sheet are blank.

In Access 2010 the value of the calculation does not reflect the addition of these two fields in Report View, but does reflect the correct value in Print Preview or if I print to a .pdf.

In Access 2003 the value of this calculation is correct in both Report View and Print Preview.

Any further ideas about how to ensure that the calculation is executed in report view would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Caryn

In Access there are these views:

View 2003 2007
============= ==== ====
Design View X X
Print Preview X X
Layout Preview X X
Report View X

I don't have 2010 available to check at the moment.

I'm not sure that any calcs a performed in the Report View and I question your reason for using it rather than the Print Preview.

Thank you very much, Duane. You provided the solution -- look at data only in Print Preview.

Do you by chance know how to make the default view for a double-click on a report be print preview?

In 2003, upon double-clicking a report I probably went right into Print Preview. However, in 2010 upon double-clicking the report, the view apparently defaults to (the new) Report View, which does not perform calculations. I've looked around for double-click behavior under Options but have not found an appropriate setting.

Either way, thank you very much for enlightening me.

I never provide my users with a view of the reports (or other objects) in the Navigation bar. I have controls on forms for users to run reports.

However, each report has a Default View property that can be changed to Print Preview.

Many, many thanks Duane. I will change the Default View on my reports to Print Preview -- this is excellent information.

Now if I were to really press my luck I would want to know how to change the default report Default View in Access 2010. However, I am certainly satisfied with the helpful guidance you have provided. Thank you so much!
