I have a bit of a headache here for y'all.
I have one extension that I am trying to toll restrict with the filters. We have centrex and make calls to some centrex numbers so we are using routing tables and not pool access codes. I have tried using the default filter (filter 01) and LD calls are allowed. I have tried building filter tables that deny 9A, 99A,1A or A (A designates any) and assigning them to the phone, all are allowing LD calls. the system is MICS 4.1 am using the normal schedule and both filter 01 and filter 05 JerryReeve

Are you programming the filter under terminals & sets or lines? You need to do in under terminals... Here's the process:

You can restrict one or more extensions from dialing certain prefixes or area codes. You may also restrict extensions to the local area code only, and you can build in exceptions that allow the extensions to dial some area codes. You first build the restriction “filter” (and add exceptions), and then assign the filter to extensions. Note: Although a filter is built in “terminals & sets” programming using a specific extension (step 2), the filter you build can be assigned to any other extensions. You only need to build a filter once. NOTE: Be sure to document any restrictions!
1. At “Terminals & Sets”, press SHOW.
2. The display reads “Show set: ___”. Type in the extension you wish to restrict. Then press SHOW.
3. The display reads, “Line access”. Press NEXT until the display reads “Restrictions”.
4. Press SHOW. The display reads “Restriction filters”. (NOTE: If you have already built a restriction filter and simply need to assign the filter to an extension, skip to step #10.)
5. Press SHOW. The display reads “Show filter:” Enter the filter number and press SHOW. (If building a new filter, start with filter #06).
6. The display reads “No restrictions”. Select ADD from the display.
7. The display reads “Restrn 01:” Enter the lead digit, prefix or area code to be restricted and select OK.
8. To make exceptions, press SHOW, NEXT and select ADD and begin entering the exceptions. (See example below)
9. When finished, press HEADING until the display reads “Restriction Filters”.
10. Press NEXT. The display reads “Set Restrns”
11. Press SHOW twice and see “Normal:02”. Select CHANGE from the display and enter the new filter number.
12. To assign the new filter to another set, press HEADING until “Terminals & Sets” appears.
13. Press SHOW, enter the next extension number and press SHOW.
14. Press NEXT until the display reads “Restrictions”. Press SHOW and follow steps 6-7.
15. When finished, press the Release button.

Example 1: To restrict calls to the local area code, enter “1” in step 7. To make exceptions for toll free calls or calls to adjoining area codes, in step 8, enter 1800 and select OK from the display. To continue adding exceptions, select ADD and enter 1888. Repeat for 1877 and 1866. Continue to repeat using local area codes as needed.

Example 2: To restrict pay calls (area code 900 and prefix 976), enter “1900” in step 7 and select OK. Select ADD and enter “976” and select OK. Select ADD and enter “1”, select ANY from the display three times, enter “976” and select OK. (Each time you select “any” the system inserts a “wild card”. This way, you restrict calls to a 976 prefix in any area code.)

Just a stab in the dark, don't have a manual handy and haven't been working with Norstar much lately.

A while back I came across a MICS 4.1 using routing tables (they had PRI) and had to restrict some phones. It didn't say 'restricted call' on the display until the full long distance number was dialed - ex.1-876-543-2100.
I was used to getting the 'restricted call' display right after I dialed '1'.

It may have to do with being on centrex and having one more digit to dial (9) and you may have to adjust the public DN length in order for it to work.

I think Public DN is found under the Services heading.
Try changing prefix 1 from 11 digits to 12 and change all the other prefix settings 0, 011 etc. to one higher than their current setting.

Hope this helps.

Pjolly; Yes I am programming it in the sets area.
lowradiation; the calls are being completed all the way thru and you had a couple of good possibilities about the dn length and then prefexing with a 9 but still no go.

I am able to get restriction if I remove the destination codes from the system but I need to be able to do this with the destination codes in place. (destination 91 absorbs 1 digit goes to route 001 dials out 9 using pool A)

I am open to ideas, Anyone? JerryReeve

Just reading over your original post and you say "I have tried building filter tables that deny 9A, 99A,1A or A" You had it set to 'A' and you STILL could call long dist.?? - you shouldn't have been able to dial out at all.

Try checking the Restrn Service - Under the Services heading - make sure it is Off (default). Or give all schedules (Normal, Night, Evening, Lunch, Sched 4,5,6) restriction filter 01.

Mroberts: Yes I have tried 91A, also others, I will go back and try them all one at a time ie: 9 9a 99 99a 91 91a 1 1a and any others you might think of to attempt.

Lowradiation: The services were on manual but now are off. no change, still am making connections even though there are presently 91A 1A and 99a built in. when I get back from my service call i will try the numbers spec'd above.

Thanks JerryReeve

Hey Jerry. I am no phone expert and just started doing our norstar so please excuse me if this is stupid. I just setup on our switch a restriction for 411. Our default filter is 02 and not 01 so I did it on that one. I could never dial out 411 because I set our dest codes with 91(and a bunch for 800 numbers),9305,9786,9611,9911 and that's it so 411 would go nowhere. I added a dest code of 94A and I was able to dial out 411. I added a restriction filter of 411 to filter 02 and I would get dial tone after dialing 41 but after I dialed the last 1 it would come back and say denied.

So it did work for me. maybe if you rebuild targeting just one number like I did you can find the gremiln.

Just my 2 cents worth. If it helps great. If you guys think I'm an idiot, I already know that!!!!!!!! ;)

Hey Jerry,

Did you ever resolve this restriction filter issue?? I am having a similar issue, on a system that also has destination codes (which I also need!).

Like you, I cannot get the filter to restrict unless I set the filter to 'A'. But once I do this, I cannot get any overrides to work. I am sure it is the interaction with the destination code routing, and I am wondering how you resolved this.

Thanks.
