Hi All,

I’m looking at putting a wireless network alongside our existing network and I would like to be able to secure the setup of the wireless clients to:- a) stop user’s from making changes to the setup and b) when not on the network they can’t add other wireless networks (unless given permission to do so) The plan is to use the windows configuration tools rather than the specific client software. This might sound a bit restrictive but due to the nature of our work (healthcare) we need to ensure the security of the laptops away from the main network.

If anyone has any ideas then I would love to hear.

Many thanks

Requirement:
Need to insure security of the laptops away from the main network.

Since you are in health care, I would say the best practice is not to have any patient data on the Laptop. As a suggestion: build the wireless network as you stated, outside your LAN. The wirless network should only offer access to the Internet. From within your LAN, use Citrix or (MSTerminal Services) to publish application to your remote users. This way all Data and Processing is kept secure within your network.

Using this method allows you to centrally manage the data, who care if the laptop get stolen, no data on it...

Good luck...
