Hi,

Have recently purchased an expensive colour copier printer.

This unit is able to prompt Windows users to enter their user code when they try to print to it. However the same is not available for Mac users. Therefore as it stands it is a free for all as the printer appears in the Chooser.

I need to find someway to control teh use of this printer to Mac users. I thought perhaps using a print queue on the WIn2K server but security on there would apply to Windows users not Mac users.
I guess some 3rd party option may be required.

Any suggestions would be greatefully received.

Our guesses would be more informed if we knew what vendor and model the copier/printer was and what OS the Mac users were using.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Mac users: OS9.1 and 9.2.2

Printer is RICOH 1232C

Have spoken to RICOH already. On the client side youi can specify user codes so the printer records it when a job is sent to it so for auditing teh usage this is o.k. but you are not forced to use a user code so therefore any Mac user who wanted to print to it could.

Hope this helps

If you invest in PCMacLAN, you could funnel all Mac print jobs through a Windows machine that share the printer.
