Humm, its something that I would like to find out, how can one restrict the delivery of files with any extension choosen, using Exchange 5.5.

Any ideas?

I don't think it can be done with Exchange 5.5. If you use Outlook 2000 SR1a or higher, the default should be to block all level 1 attachments.

If you want to add a spam filter, a good one should allow you to block attachments. Xwall ( is what we use. You can also block them through a lot of the antivirus apps available for Exchange. We use InoculateIT v6.0, Exchange Option for our Exchange antivirus but I believe Norton has a similar solution.

McAfee GroupShield Exchange (anti-virus) allows you to block sending and receiving of attachments based on specific extensions.
