We have what we call "user" files on our server. These files are secured for the user and only the user and "domain admins" have access to each folder. In server 2003, this worked fine. We would set each folder to have the NTFS permissions for "user-name; domain admins" and everything worked fine. Now, in server 2008 something has changed. If we set the NTFS permissions the same as we did in 2003, browsing through the network allows domain admins and the specific user access, however when a domain admin is logged onto the console of the server and we attempt to access a user folder (which domain admins have rights to access) we get an error "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to permanently get access to this folder" and if you click "Continue" Windows adds your specific user to the access list, even though as a "domain admin" I already should have rights to access it. I thought perhaps this was because I wasn't running windows explorer in "administrative mode" by right clicking on it and selecting "Run as Administrator" but even if I do that, I get the same message.
Any ideas as to why?
