hi, I have a BCM 400 4.0 and I'm trying to find a way to disable dialing for certain area codes and numbers, can someone tell me how to do this or point me in the right direction? I've searched the internet and not may results come up. Maybe i'm using the wrong keywords.

Restrict 0+, 0-, and 10-10-XXX dialing out of PBX.
Restrict all calls to 900, 976, 950 and 411

and another question. If i disconnect the Ethernet, could hackers still get into my system through other methods?

thanks

Look at restriction filter 01. It's already set up for most of that. You can add and delete to it as you wish, then just assign the set to filter 1.

Or you can set up any of the 99 other filters to suit your needs.

As for hackers, most of them get into your system via the voicemail through the AA (and a few other methods). I'm not about to describe on this forum how its done but do your due diligence and read the manuals from Nortel on how to protect yourself from hackers,

At minimum, make sure your vm ports don't have access to any of the line pools. Do not allow vm boxes to be initialized from outside the system. Turn on the trivial password checking and force password changes at least every 30 days......among other things!

thanks, this was very helpful. I was able to find the filters and set them.

Is there a way to disable the ability to make calls (re-route) when dialing into your voicemail from outside the office?

Re "If i disconnect the Ethernet, could hackers still get into my system through other methods?" depends on whether you've enabled isdn or modem dial up. Check how these are configured.

If you disconnect the ethernet, how are you going to maintain it? For example, how you going to apply any patches? Also if you need to escalate a fault to Avaya, they will expect some method of accessing it (it's written into SLAs for support cases that remote access must be provided).

i disabled modem dialup.
i disconnect the Ethernet, but plug it in when I need to connect to it.

thanks
