How can I restrict the following:

When an e-mail Addressed to Smith@Domain.name gets sent to the closest match which may be Rsmith@Domain.name since this is the only Smith at the company. Or when it sends the email to a closest match such as Chan@domain.name gets sent to all the chan's in the company if not atleast one of them. Most of, if not all the e-mails, that come in with just a last name are junk mail. I did not set these up as aliases so it must be some default setting in Lotus R5. How can I disable or restrict this?

Please some one tell me how to disable the Smart Aliasing feature....

Ok here is what I found so far:
In configurations under messaging. I choose my server.
Under Router/SMTP on the Basics Tab I disabled (well it was already disabled) the "Smart host is used for all local internet domain recipients."

That is dumb. If it is set to disable it only means that all e-mails will not be sent to the smart host only the ones that are not found in the address book and that is exactly what I to restrict

I do not want anything going to the smart host.... aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

Any hellp much apreciated.

I think you're mixing up two things here...

the smarthost thing is for entries *NOT* found in your nab, which can be usefull if you're in a situation with two different email systems, in which case instead of generating a delivery failure, domino will forward the message to this other mail system.

regarding your original question...

if you take a look at a person document in the nab, there's the firstname, middle initial, lastname, username and shortname fields. the username field generally starts with fullname/organisation followed by fullname, Firstname and lastname. (you could consider those to be aliases).

first of all to prevent your notes client from sending to the first match it finds, click on your location (at the bottom righthand side of the screen, next to the mail icon), and select 'edit current location' in the pop up menu. Select Mail and set Recipient Name Lookup to Exhaustively check all addressbooks. This way at least you should get a prompt when it finds multiple matches and it'll allow you to pick the one you want.

To prevent incoming internet mail from being sent to the first(partial/best) match, open your server's configuration document and go to Router/SMTP-Basics. Set the Address lookup field to 'Fullname only' instead of the default fullname then localpart.

for an explanation, click and hold the left mousebutton on the 'address lookup' field label, this should pop up a short description, and there's also the administration help database of course ;-)

hope this helps.

Oh Joy,

Thank you soooo much. You not only answered my question, but answered the address book question I had been trying to figure out for the past year. Thanks ever so much.

ummm... I did the part:
first of all to prevent your notes client from sending to the first match it finds, click on your location (at the bottom righthand side of the screen, next to the mail icon), and select 'edit current location' in the pop up menu. Select Mail and set Recipient Name Lookup to Exhaustively check all addressbooks. This way at least you should get a prompt when it finds multiple matches and it'll allow you to pick the one you want.

Is this supposed to show me multiple matches in both my personal and Company e-mail address book? or just my Personal one.

I just tried to type in Richard, which appears in both the company and personal, but only the personal multiple Richards appear and not both.... :-( Did I miss something?
