Can I restore the xln file from an S8500 CM3.0.1 on a flash card to an entirely different S8510 server running CM5.1.2?
will the translation be compatible coming from a server running CM3.0.1?

The xln1 can be restored from cm3.0.1 to cm5.1.2
This will all be compatible if your port packs were the same in the other system. If not, you would only have to reconfigure trunks and stations to match your port pack hardware in the cm5.

You will need a cm5 RFA license to be able to use it.
The cm3 logins will automatically convert to cm5 logins with default user / web profiles.

Thanks this is encouraging, There are no changes to any of the circuit packs in the PN, just upgrading the server. I have another question if it is ok. I went to site with the server and roughed it in the rack. I configured it manually by copying the server configurations from the all ready existing server. When I plugged the ipsi directly into eth0 (cna) I got absolutely no connectivity on the port??? it is as if the ipsi does not see server or vice versa. What am I doing wrong??

Do you have a switch between your IPSI and your eth0 of your S8510? I think you are plugging it directly so you can try a cross cable.
