hi,

I was wondering if somebody could clear this up for me. I am setting up a test lab using backup tapes from a client's site. They are running NW5.1 SP4 with two servers in the tree. They are using Arcerve 7 for backups without agents. I have rebuilt the two servers and restored NDS without any problems. I am not sure what the correct procedure is for restoring the sys volume. I tried it and with the default options (overwrite all files) and it stuffed up my server - ds would not load and my products.dat file was corrupt. Are you meant to restore with overwrite with newer files only set or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

In general, you would want to restore in one of 2 ways:

1) Use bare metal and do a disaster recovery as per backup software procedures (supposing you have the hardware recovery option).

2) Install NetWare from scratch (exact same version and support pack as original). Then restore just the data, and not the system files. If the 2 are mixed on same SYS volume then try a restore with NO OVERWRITE of existing files.
