We have been running SQL Server backups using VERITAS Backup Exec for some weeks now and have today attempted to restore one of these backups from the tape media to a different SQL Server (server other than that where the backup was run and being restored from - having VERITAS backup Exec installed on it). We are setting the name of the target server (not where we are running the software from) and setting the name of the target database. So far we have been unable to successfully restore the database onto the separate server. We continually get a log (after 3+ minutes of working) indicating that access was denied to '... filepath' but the drive on this separate server is set to shared and can be seen from the server. We have tried running the restore process with the target database not already created, with the target database created but with no tables in it and also with the target database created with the tables as required. Each time we are told that the restore fails due to this access denied issue. I am unable to see entry points for a user-name and password (the separate SQL server does not have a password set for the 'sa' user log-in).
Can someone indicate where I am going wrong with this ?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Be sure to check what drive your databases are going to be written to. This was an error we saw early on for our testing

Make sure the database being restored is in single user mode, also see below links. The first place to look is the Event Viewer.

When attempting to restore a Microsoft SQL database, Backup Exec for Windows NT reports the database restore operation failed (Event Viewer Application Event ID: 8017) because the database was in use
