hi there,
ok, i got a "just do fdisk /mbr" problem... but a little bit more complex. i installed debian 2.2 twice in a row. the problem is, that the first time i did that, it must have written lilo into /dev/hda1, which is my dos/windows partition.
and now i can`t get rid of it!
lilo -u /dev/hda1 doesn't work: i get LIL- (2nd installation deleted backups of the boot record /dev/hda1)
and so everytime i try to boot windows it just gives me LIL-
fdisk /mbr doesn't help there, since it's not the master boot sector.
is there any way to erease the boot sector of a partition instead of the MBR?
thanks for any help!

"fdisk/mbr" (without the space), is the way the command should be run. That is, if you totally want to wipe the master boot record. That will affect this situation, since Linux could not get to the "LIL-" stage without having changed the master boot record.

Which fdisk??

The LINUX version of fdisk will not fix the problem. You need to boot into DOS from a startup disk (or Lilo to the dos/windows partition and Command Prompt Only). Then run fdisk /mbr or fdisk/mbr (the space is irrelevant)
