Hello,
We have run into an issue while developing a disaster recovery plan. We have software on some of our servers that we do not want to reinstall, if a disaster should occur. We are currently backing up the entire file system and system state on these machines. The problem that arises is this, what should we do if there is a disaster and we can't obtain the exact same hardware. The registry contains hardware specific data. I could be wrong, but if we have to restore the server's registry (required to restore the software from backup) on a server with different hardware there could be corruption. Does anyone now of a tool that lets you pick what registry keys you want to restore. We are using Veritas Backup Exec 8.6, for the registry it lets you do all or none. Again, this is fine if you restore on the exact same machine. If you have a major hardware change, it might be a problem.
Thanks
