Hi all,
I was trying to restore a backup of our prod and use it as a development instance. I have an existing instance of dev from several months ago. (sql 2005)
So my question revolves around the correct way of doing the restore from within SMS. In SMS, I right-click on Dev and do Restore. In the "To Database" is my Dev db name, and then below I select the .bak file from the backup of Prod.
The problem is that when I go to the "options" tab, in the area where it says "Restore Database File as:" it shows just a name (no path) under "Original filename", and under "Restore As" it shows the physical path where the original production files are. So I changed it to the path where the dev files are. All good so far.
When I clicked back to the "General" tab--I was about to start the restore and just to double check I clicked back to the "Options" tab--and the path had changed back to Prod! Is it me or is this an extremely dangerous bug? What if I hadn't checked? Or is it like the refrigerator light--if I hadn't checked it wouldn't have changed back? Does just clicking on that Options tab autmatically wipe out whatever settings you've already done?
What I did was click the OK button from the Options tab context just to be sure. But what is up with that? Am I overreacting or is this a real problem?
Thanks,
