Restoring mail from a backup

It must be my month of GW problems!!!!

I Have another server on 5.2 gw ( it is an old machine)

anyway the disk went down on the server and i've had to do a rebuild. creating a new installation of netware etc, and restoring the data from an arcserve backup.

i havent restored any of the groupwise files yet, or created a new groupwise install on the server.

whats the best way of recovering all the mail from the backup ?

What we did a few years ago was:

Complete system backup to tape
login to every GW account and archive all mail and addressbooks
backup of archive directories
reinstall netware on the server
reinstall of GW both patched of course
recreate GW accounts
edit FID's of archives to match new GW FID
restored last 2 months of email to inbox from archive

As the server when bang big style i dont have the mail archived in gw. Just a file backup of the directories.

I've built the new server, i'll load gw tomorrow and recreate all the users.

is there a way i can get the mail and address books even though it hadnt been archived from with gw then backed up to tape, justg a straight forward arcserve backup

What version of Arcserve are you using? Do you have the GW backup agent?

Arcserve 2000, and no gw agent...


just backingu up the directory
