I am building virtual systems, but would like to use images from previous systems instead of a new install. I can see my Clarion SAN device and appear to do a successful restore; but on boot the system fails due to "VolGroup00" not found. Has anyone else run into this issue that you know of? What is the solution?

Some of the errors received:

PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 4 of device 0000:00:07.1

Reading all physical volumes
No volume groups found.

These errors occur during the bootup of Redhat Linux 4.5 after a successful image restore to a ESX3.5iu2 virtual machine.

Any of you "Guru's" have an answer to this problem?

Firstly, what is volgroup00? Is it a SAN LUN and was it present on your previous system setup and is it setup on your new system setup?

Would it not be better if you used the VMWare COnverter to import the VM into your current setup?

The VolGroup is part of the Redhat Linux configuration. The image we are attempting to restore to this virtual machine was not previously a VM. In my reading I did not see where VMware Converter worked in this situation. Can you suggest a white paper that gives more clarity?
