Hi,

How easy is it to restore individual files/folders using Backup Exec?

Currently using Stac Replica and finding this very confusing and awkward, because no matter what tape is in the drive, the list of backups which can be restored is always the same, and includes some REALLY old backups going back to 2000 and even 1999. I wish it would JUST show me which backup is on the currently inserted tape.

Can you perhaps point me to a place (web site?) I can see the step by step process in Backup Exec, to reassure me.

What kind of rotation of backup tapes does Backup Exec support, or suggest?

I used to use a set of 20 tapes, 1 for each day of the week and each four weeks I'd start back on the first tape again (so I could always go back 4 weeks).

Then my boss said it would be better to use 9 tapes - 1 tape for Monday, 1 for Tuesday, 1 for Wednesday, 1 for Thursday and 4 or 5 for Fridays, depending on how many Fridays there were in a calender month.

What is the industry standard? or best practice? Also, how many times should a single tape be used for backing up? How often should the tape drive have the cleaning tape inserted?

The tape drive is HP SureStore 24GB.

I do hope you can help me.

Regards,
Jay/UK
